The Project Management Office (PMO) Financial Specialist provides support for project financial forecasting and reporting processes at Canada Life. As a member of the Clarity and Data Analytics team, part of the Technology Project Management Office (TPMO), the PMO Financial Specialist helps extend, enhance and support processes and tools to simplify project forecasting for project managers, maintain the integrity of financial information contained in the project management book of record application (Clarity), and reconcile with the general ledger (SAP). The ideal candidate for this role will work equally effectively with Canada Life Project Managers, Finance professionals, Procurement, and other key stakeholders, ensuring that decisions can be made with confidence in the data.

What you’ll do
- Work with Technology Finance teams and with TPMO colleagues to understand project financial processes from beginning to end
- Work with TPMO leaders and Finance portfolio management teams to facilitate monthly reviews of PM forecasts, make any portfolio-level adjustments necessary in Clarity, and ensure that Clarity is a dependable source for portfolio forecast data
- Reconcile project spend numbers between Clarity and SAP, digging into any unexplained variances and recommending fixes and controls to eliminate them
- Partner with colleagues in the Clarity team to develop solutions to simplify project financial forecasting
- Partner with the Global Technology Finance team to support bulk adjustments to project financials where necessary, but also to seek to reduce the necessity of bulk adjustments
- Maintain a high level of user engagement and support for project managers and other TPMO application users, including developing user guidelines and training materials to ease onboarding
What you’ll bring
- Bachelor’s degree or professional certification, and 2+ years experience in Finance and/or Accounting
- Experience working with project managers and PMO teams
- 2–4+ years of experience in working with project managers, project management offices, and technology teams with production delivery responsibility.
- Hands-on experience with project portfolio management systems preferred, ideally Clarity
- Understanding of the project management lifecycle, and agile methodologies. Experience working in agile or iterative delivery environments.
- Experience working with diverse data models, and structured and unstructured data sources.
- Experience gathering and documenting requirements and guiding solutions from concept through implementation.
- Proven ability to build clear spreadsheets and reports to present complex financial details to senior stakeholders
- Strong problem-solving and process analysis skills.
- Understanding of insurance and financial services industry preferred.
