Do not guess from a neighbour’s bin or last week’s date. Holidays can change the schedule. The City also provides print calendars at City Hall, libraries, community centres and waste facilities.

If you need a large-print calendar or a translated version, ask Service London. The City lists Arabic, French, Mandarin, Portuguese and Spanish versions.

  1. Open the City’s Zone Finder and enter your address.
  2. Check the dates for garbage, Green Bin, recycling and yard waste.

Recycling responsibility and 2026 changes

On January 1, 2026, responsibility for London’s residential Blue Box system moved from the City to the companies that supply packaging and paper. Circular Materials manages the system. Miller Waste handles missed recycling, replacement bins and collection questions. The City still manages garbage, Green Bin and yard waste.

The City’s recycling page lists new accepted packaging, including plastic bags and overwrap, foam packaging and tubes such as toothpaste tubes. Use the current sorting guide before putting an item out. An old calendar may show rules that have changed.

Recycling help: Miller Waste, 1-888-852-2376 or area24@millerwaste.ca. For City garbage, Green Bin or yard waste issues, use Service London.

Prepare garbage bags and cans correctly

The City marks limit-exemption days in the collection calendar. It also lists $2 garbage tags for extra residential containers at EnviroDepots. Check the current instructions before setting out extra bags.

  • For standard household collection, the usual limit is three containers. One bag or one can counts as a container.
  • Each container must weigh no more than 20 kilograms. Garbage cans must hold 30 to 125 litres.
  • Use a suitable large bag or can. Do not put individual grocery or small kitchen bags at the curb.
  • Set garbage out by 7 a.m. on collection day, no earlier than 6 p.m. the evening before.

Use your Green Bin each week

For the regular curbside program, Green Bins are collected weekly even when garbage is not due. Empty the small indoor kitchen container into the outdoor Green Bin. Do not put the kitchen container itself out for collection.

Latch the lid and put the bin on level ground near the curb. Set it out by 7 a.m., not before 6 p.m. the day before. Paper or certified compostable liners can help keep it clean.

  • Food scraps and food-soiled paper belong in the Green Bin.
  • Pet waste, diapers, baby wipes and ordinary plastic bags do not belong in it. Check Recycle Coach for the right place.

  4. Use the confirmed collection date and set-out instructions for your address.
  • Appliances, electronics, renovation waste, tires and scrap metal are not part of this furniture booking.
  • Remove a mattress from a sofa bed and secure exposed springs as the City directs.
  • For bedbug-affected furniture, use sealed plastic wrapping and follow the City’s preparation instructions.

Questions about London waste collection

Why was my recycling missed, and who do I contact?

Check the current schedule and sorting rules first. For recycling collection problems, contact Miller Waste at 1-888-852-2376. Recycling support moved away from the City in 2026.

Is garbage collected every week in London?

For standard residential curbside service, garbage is collected every other week. Green Bins are weekly. Buildings, businesses and the Core Area can have different arrangements.

Source: City Green Bin guide

Can I take a mattress to an EnviroDepot?

No. The City says EnviroDepots do not accept furniture or mattresses. Check booked curbside pickup or W12A Landfill, including any fees.

Source: City EnviroDepots

How do I find my London garbage collection day?

Enter your address in the City Zone Finder and use the current collection calendar. Check garbage, Green Bin, recycling and yard waste separately. Holiday changes mean last week’s date is not a reliable guide.

Who manages London’s Blue Box recycling now?

Since January 1, 2026, Circular Materials manages residential Blue Box recycling, with Miller Waste handling collection support. The City still handles garbage, Green Bin and yard waste services. Use the contact for the service involved.

Do I need to book collection for a couch or mattress?

Eligible residential curbside households can book bulky-item collection through Service London. Give the address and items, then follow the confirmed date and preparation instructions. This booking is separate from ordinary garbage set-out.

Source: City garbage and bulky item guide

Does yard waste go out on the regular garbage day?

Use the yard waste dates on your address calendar. Yard waste has seasonal collection weeks and separate preparation rules, so a regular garbage date does not establish that yard waste will be collected too.

Source: City collection schedules and exceptions

Can I take electronics and batteries to an EnviroDepot?

The City lists electronics and batteries among materials accepted without a drop-off charge. Check the chosen depot’s current accepted-material list and hours. Other loads, including garbage and renovation waste, can have fees.

Source: City EnviroDepots

Do apartments use the same waste schedule as curbside houses?

Not always. Shared bins, private collection and some townhome services have different arrangements. Ask the property manager where to sort materials and which pickup schedule applies to your building.

Source: City collection schedules and exceptions

Can I get a paper or accessible collection calendar?

The City provides print calendars at libraries, City Hall, community centres and waste facilities. Ask Service London about large print or translated versions if the standard calendar is difficult to use.
