The Children’s Emergency Department operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for babies, children and teens up to 18. Its arrival instructions show the route from both Commissioners Road and Baseline Road.

Use the entrance for your department, rather than a general hospital reception entrance. An outpatient appointment can be in a different zone. Bring the appointment letter or message if you have one.

Registration can close before the posted closing time when patient volume is very high. Check the provider’s current notice before leaving. Patients are assessed by a nurse and treated according to urgency, rather than simply arrival order.

The hospital’s contact page gives 268 Grosvenor Street. Some general site banners show a different street number; use the Urgent Care directions and Entrance 2 signs. Ambulances take emergency patients to an emergency department.

Health Care Connect registration

Health Care Connect searches for a family doctor, nurse practitioner or primary care team accepting patients. Register yourself or your family online, or call 811. It is available in English and French. A registration does not guarantee an immediate match.

  1. Prepare contact details and a valid Ontario health card number.
  2. Use the mailing address associated with the health card.
  3. Register through Ontario’s Health Care Connect page and describe your care needs.
  4. Keep the confirmation and update the service when your address, contact details or health needs change.

If you have used the program before, re-register by phone at 811. A match leads to a referral and initial appointment, where you and the provider discuss ongoing care.

Submitting and checking immunization records

Use the Health Unit’s Immunization Connect Ontario link, called ICON, to submit and view records. New submissions can take up to 10 days to appear after review. Keep a copy of what you submit.

Parents and guardians need to report school immunizations to public health. A record sent to a school is not the same as a record submitted to the Health Unit. If online access is difficult, phone 519-663-5317, fax 519-663-0416 or ask about in-person submission at Citi Plaza.

Information to prepare for a visit or call

  • Write down the reason for the visit, when it began and the main questions you need answered.
  • Take your health card or other coverage details, a medication list and any referral or appointment instructions you have.
  • Tell the provider about interpretation, mobility, hearing or other access needs when arranging a visit.
  • For a clinic, confirm whether it is accepting patients, whether you need an appointment and whether any charge applies to your situation.

This is a preparation checklist. It does not assess symptoms or replace instructions from a nurse or clinician.
