Schools and registration in London, Ontario

London, Ontario, Canada

Compare London’s four school systems, prepare board-specific registration documents, arrange school bus service and report immunization records.

Key information

London has English public, English Catholic, French public and French Catholic school systems. Choose the board, confirm the school for your address and follow that board’s registration process. School enrolment, school bus registration, child care and public health records are separate tasks.

School boundaries and program choices

Start with the child’s home address. Each board uses attendance areas. A school close to your home may belong to a different board or serve a different boundary. Program choices can also change which school applies.

For TVDSB, use its School Locator before completing registration. LDCSB directs families to their designated school and has a separate boundary exemption process. An exemption is not automatic, and schools at capacity may not accept it.

French-language school admission differs from French Immersion in an English-language board. Ask the relevant board about admission, the entry grade and transport before choosing a program.

TVDSB does not accept a driver’s licence as proof of living address. Its registration page advises using a computer or tablet rather than a phone for account setup. After starting online, follow the school’s document and confirmation steps.

Junior Kindergarten is available for a child who turns four by December 31 of the entry year. The elementary registration page asks for original documents in English or a certified translation.

LDCSB lists driver’s licences, health cards and phone/retail bills as unacceptable address evidence. Secondary students use the separate secondary admissions route.

French-language school applications

Viamonde begins with a regional school search and pre-registration. Staff review French-language education rights or explain an admissions committee route. Families outside the automatic admission criteria can ask for that review.

Viamonde’s document list includes proof of citizenship, the child’s birth certificate, address evidence and an existing school report. Its registration office is 1-877-342-3683 or inscription@csviamonde.ca.

Providence requests age, citizenship/status, parental responsibility and residence evidence. Its school contacts the family after a registration request. Contact the school if documents are missing rather than assuming another board’s checklist applies.

School bus eligibility and annual registration

Southwestern Ontario Student Transportation Services, known as STS or My Big Yellow Bus, handles eligible TVDSB and LDCSB transportation. Use its address tool for the correct school year. French boards use their own transport arrangements.

Eligible families must register for the bus every year. A Parent Portal account alone does not register a child to ride. Have the student ID from the school ready.

  1. Confirm school enrolment and address accuracy with the school.
  2. Check transport eligibility for that address and school.
  3. Submit the annual Bus Registration Form.
  4. Allow the listed seven to 10 business days for processing. For a move, update the school first and then submit a new bus registration.

STS says transport following an address change starts on Mondays. Shared custody or caregiver addresses have extra rules and forms.

Public health records and school support

Submit immunization records to the Middlesex-London Health Unit using its ICON service. Giving a copy only to the school does not complete public health reporting. Contact 519-663-5317 if you need submission help.

For newcomer support, ask the board about Settlement Workers in Schools. This can connect families to language and local settlement services. Before- and after-school child care has a separate provider, application and fee arrangement.

Confirm these details before the first day

  • School year, program, grade and home school have been confirmed.
  • The school has reviewed the required documents and supplied the next step.
  • Bus registration and route details are ready, or another travel plan is in place.
  • The school knows about custody, language, access and learning-support needs.
  • Any before- or after-school care place is confirmed separately.

School registration questions

Can I use one document checklist for all London boards?

No. Their requirements differ. For example, TVDSB and LDCSB accept different forms and numbers of address documents. Use your board’s own list.

Does an STS Parent Portal account register my child for the bus?

No. Eligible families must also submit the annual Bus Registration Form.

Which school boards serve London, Ontario?

The four systems are English public (TVDSB), English Catholic (LDCSB), French public (Viamonde) and French Catholic (Csc Providence). Start with the board for your chosen system, then confirm school assignment and admission rules.

How do I find the school assigned to my home?

Use your board’s school locator or registration office with the full home address. Attendance boundaries and program choices matter. A school being close to your home does not establish that your child is assigned there.

Can I use a driver’s licence as TVDSB address evidence?

TVDSB’s registration page says it does not accept a driver’s licence as proof of living address. Use the board’s current document list and ask the school about alternatives if you lack the listed evidence.

Is a French-language school the same as French Immersion?

No. French-language boards have their own admission process. Viamonde reviews French-language education rights or explains an admissions committee route. Ask the chosen board about admission, program entry and transport.

What do I do about school transport after moving home?

Update the address with the school first, then submit a new bus registration if the STS service applies. Check eligibility for the new address and school year. Allow for processing before relying on a new route.

Where should I send my child’s immunization record?

Submit it to the Middlesex-London Health Unit through its ICON service or another accepted route. Giving the record only to the school does not complete public health reporting. Ask the Health Unit for submission help if needed.

Can newcomer families get help understanding school services?

Ask the school board about Settlement Workers in Schools. This support helps connect families with school and local settlement services. Explain any language or access needs when asking for a referral.

Does school registration also arrange before- and after-school care?

No. Care has a separate provider, application and fee arrangement. Confirm the care place and its hours separately from school enrolment and the bus journey before the first day.
